About Full-Motion Mount Installation

A full-motion mount extends, tilts, and swivels, which makes sense for rooms where people watch from more than one spot — an open-concept kitchen and living room, a corner installation, or a bedroom where the TV needs to turn toward the bed. Full-motion is also the mount of choice when a soundbar or other component sits directly below the screen, since the extended arm keeps the TV from blocking access to connections behind it even after everything is wired and concealed. Full-motion mounts also tend to need a bit more setup precision than fixed or tilt brackets, since the plate has to be anchored across multiple studs (or use heavy-duty anchors on masonry) to safely support the leverage of the extended arm. We factor that into the install rather than treating every mount type as interchangeable hardware.

  • Extends the TV away from the wall on an articulating arm, then swivels left or right — useful for corner walls or L-shaped rooms.
  • Handles heavier TVs than tilt-only brackets in most cases, since the arm is engineered for repeated movement.
  • Requires slightly more wall clearance and usually a stud-spanning plate, due to the added leverage on the mount.
  • We test the full range of motion before we leave to confirm it holds position at every angle.
  • Mounting plate anchored across multiple studs, or heavy-duty masonry anchors where needed, to safely support the arm's extended leverage.
Full-motion installs run $189 up to 75″, and $249 for large-format 75″–85″ TVs.

Frequently Asked Questions About Full-Motion Mount Installation

Will a full-motion mount hold my TV steady when extended? +
Yes, when it's properly anchored into studs — the arm is rated for the TV's weight at full extension, and we test the range of motion before finishing the job.
Is a full-motion mount the same as an articulating mount? +
Yes — "full-motion" and "articulating" describe the same type of mount, the kind with an arm that extends, tilts, and swivels rather than sitting flat against the wall. We install both residential and commercial articulating mounts.
How far can the TV extend from the wall? +
It depends on the bracket, but most full-motion mounts extend 15–24 inches from the wall and swivel roughly 90 degrees in either direction.
Does a full-motion mount need a bigger hole pattern or backer board? +
Often yes, since the added leverage means we usually anchor into two studs with a mounting plate rather than a single set of four points.
Can you combine a full-motion mount with cable concealment? +
Yes — it's a common pairing. We route the cables to accommodate the extended arm's full range of motion, rather than leaving slack that binds or exposed cable when the TV swings out.
